Garment Care Guide
We want your Kawaii Heaven pieces to stay beautiful wash after wash. The guidance below covers the most common fabric types and styles we carry. Always check the care label attached to your specific item first — supplier instructions take priority over any general advice here. When labels conflict with the sections below, follow the label.
🌸 Delicate Dresses & Lolita Jumpskirts
Lolita dresses and structured jumpskirts often combine multiple delicate fabrics and embellishments in one garment.
- Hand wash or delicate machine cycle in cold water (30 °C / 86 °F max) where the care label allows.
- Use a mild, colour-safe detergent — avoid bleach, fabric softener with optical brighteners, or enzyme-based detergents that can fade prints.
- Turn the garment inside out before washing to protect outer embellishments.
- Place in a mesh laundry bag if machine washing to prevent snagging.
- Do not wring or twist. Gently press out excess water.
- Dry flat or on a padded hanger, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, to preserve shape and colour.
- If ironing is needed, use a low-heat setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
🎀 Lace & Ruffles
Lace trims, ruffled hems, and organza overlays are among the most delicate parts of any garment.
- Hand wash only is recommended unless the care label explicitly permits machine washing.
- Submerge briefly in cold water with a small amount of delicate detergent. Do not scrub or rub lace directly — gently swish.
- Rinse thoroughly in cold water until all detergent is removed.
- Lay flat on a clean dry towel, reshape the lace by hand, and allow to air dry completely.
- To re-shape ruffles after drying, lightly mist with water and gently tug back into form. A low-heat steamer (kept at a safe distance) works well for stubborn creases.
- Never machine dry lace or organza.
🖨️ Printed Fabrics (All-Over Prints, Character Prints)
Vivid kawaii prints and all-over character designs need a little extra care to stay bright.
- Wash inside out in cold water to protect the printed surface from friction and fading.
- Use a colour-safe, gentle detergent. Avoid hot water — it accelerates ink breakdown.
- Do not tumble dry unless the care label specifically allows it. Air dry in the shade.
- Iron on the reverse side only, using a low-heat setting. Never iron directly over a print.
- Washing printed items separately for the first 1–2 washes helps prevent colour transfer.
🧥 Hoodies & Casual Kawaii Tops
Hoodies and sweatshirts are generally easier to care for, but a few steps keep them looking their best.
- Machine wash on a gentle or normal cycle in cold or warm water (max 40 °C / 104 °F), following the care label.
- Turn inside out to protect screen prints, embroidery, and appliqués.
- Use a mesh laundry bag for drawstrings and zip-ups to prevent tangling.
- Tumble dry on low heat or air dry flat to maintain shape. High heat can cause shrinking and pilling.
- Remove from the dryer promptly and reshape the hood while still slightly damp.
👟 Shoes & Footwear
Most kawaii shoes — platform Mary Janes, lolita heels, and kawaii sneakers — are not suitable for machine washing. Follow the method appropriate for the material.
- Faux leather / PU leather: Wipe clean with a soft damp cloth. Use a PU-safe conditioner occasionally to prevent cracking. Keep away from prolonged moisture.
- Fabric / canvas uppers: Spot clean with a mild soap and soft brush. Air dry stuffed with tissue paper to maintain shape.
- Platform soles & heels: Wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking — excess water can loosen adhesive.
- Storage: Store in the original box or a dust bag, away from heat, to prevent discolouration and sole warping.
💎 Accessories (Bags, Hair Clips, Jewellery)
- Bags (faux leather / fabric): Wipe the exterior with a slightly damp cloth. Do not submerge. Store stuffed with tissue to hold shape.
- Hair clips & headbands: Wipe metal parts dry immediately after contact with water to prevent tarnishing. Store separately to avoid scratching resin or acetate pieces.
- Fashion jewellery: Remove before swimming, showering, or applying perfume/hairspray. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wear. Store in an airtight pouch or box.
📋 A Note on Care Labels
Because Kawaii Heaven sources from a variety of independent designers and suppliers, care requirements vary between items. The care label sewn into each garment reflects the specific fabric blend and construction of that piece and is always the most reliable guide. If your item has no care label or the label has worn off, err on the side of caution: hand wash in cold water and air dry flat.
